On Cross-cultural Communication and Translation in Two English Versions of Hong Lou Meng

翻译是一种跨文化的交际活动,它不仅要考虑语言的差异,更要密切关注文化的差异,文化差异处理的好坏,直接影响着翻译的成败。跨文化翻译中处理文化信息应以异化为主要的翻译策略,直译加注和直译加解释都是异化策略中取利规弊的翻译方法。然而异化并不是万能的,它有一定的局限性,因此要以归化策略为补充,其中替代法和释义法都是归化策略中适用的翻译方法。

As a cross-cultural communication activity,translation not only considers the differences between languages,but also the differences between cultures.Good and bad of dealing with cultural elements decides the success and failure of translation.The thesis aims to discuss that cross-cultural translation should give priority to foreignization.Among it,literal translation with note and literal translation with explanation are two translation methods of adopting advantages and avoiding disadvantages of foreignization.However,foreignization is not almighty,so domestication is an effective supplement.Substitution and paraphrase are two applicable translation methods in domestication.
