中国特色社会主义伟大旗帜有三个要义:一是中国特色社会主义道路,这是建设富强民主文明和谐的社会主义现代化国家的前进方向和基本路线;二是中国特色社会主义理论体系,这是我国社会主义意识形态的核心内容,是中国特色社会主义道路和中国特色社会主义制度的重要指导思想;三是中国特色社会主义制度,这是中国特色社会主义道路和中国特色社会主义理论体系特点和优势的最终体现,是当代中国发展进步的根本制度保障。坚持和完善中国特色社会主义制度关键在党:党的理论上的成熟和与时俱进是前提;始终坚持"一个中心,两个基本点"的党的基本路线不动摇是根本保证;源源不断培养造就大批优秀中青年干部是组织保障;为了、相信、依靠人民群众是力量之源。

These are essences of the socialism with Chinese characteristics: first, socialism path with Chinese characteristics, which is the direction and basic line for prosperous, democratic, civi- lized and harmonious socialist country; second, socialist theories and systems with Chinese characteristics, which is the key point of our socialist ideology and an important guiding principle for socialist path with Chinese characteristics and socialist system with Chinese characteristics; third, socialist system with Chinese characteristics, which is the ultimate reflection of features and advantages of socialist path and theories and systems with Chinese characteristics and is the fundamental system guarantee for modern China ’s development. The key to uphold and improve the socialist system with Chinese characteristics is the Party. The premise is maturity of the Party ’s the- ory of and its development with time. We should take the 'one center and two basic points' of the Party’s basic line as the fundamental guarantee. We should also cultivate a large number of outstanding young cadres constantly to protect the organization; For the people, believe in and rely on the people, who are the source of strength.
