For the US, China＇s rise presents an extraordinary challenge. Many called the twentieth century the ＂ American Century,＂ just as the nineteenth was the ＂British Century. ＂ Yet the United Nations found in 2007 that no fewer than a dozen countries have in our twenty-first century advanced beyond the United States in overall development per capita. This feat the People＇s Republic of China has not yet accomplished, and whether it ever will remain to be seen.
