摘要
在浙江大学西溪校区的大门口有四个大字颇为吸引过路人的眼球——"求是育英"。它们时刻提醒我们,除了求是书院之外,还有一个历史更为悠久的书院跟浙江大学校史密切相关,那就是之江大学的前身育英书院。但是关于育英书院和其前身育英义塾这段早期之江大学历史目前已经基本上被人们所遗忘,育英书院和育英义塾的遗址也已经危在旦夕。本文拟利用新发现的史料,来重新追溯这段珍贵的历史,以唤起人们对于之江大学历史和对于育英书院和育英义塾遗址保护的关注。
At the entrance to the Xixi Campus of Zhejiang University,there are four big Chinese characters attracting the eyes of the passers-by:"求是育英"(Seeking truth,educating youth).These characters are doubles ententes,for they also refer to the two earliest modern colleges in Hangzhou: Qiushi Academy of Chinese and Western Learning and Hangchow Presbyterian College.They always remind us that these two colleges are important in the history of Zhejiang University.Nevertheless people today seem to have forgotten all about the history of Hangchow Presbyterian College and its relations to Qiushi Academy of Chinese and Western Learning.The present article aims to examine the history of Hangchow Presbyterian College by using newly acquired historical data,in order to revoke the public concern to the protection of its cultural heritage.
