《喜福会》隐喻意象及其主题建构

On Metaphors and Discourse Theme Construction in Joy Luck Club

通过对《喜福会》隐喻意象的分析,根据隐喻主题建构功能,提出在小说叙述结构中贯穿了由一个中心隐喻和大量衍生的次要隐喻支撑的"失散"———"回归"主题。这一主题是身处东西文化夹缝中美国华人群体文化处境的一种隐喻,同时也表征了普通人的生命轨迹。它代表了美国华裔从与母语母国的疏离和由此引发的与中国传统文化的"失散",到主体意识和自我认同逐渐被唤醒和"回归"的历程,也象征了普通人的人生轨迹,使本文具有了广义的人文关怀。

By analyzing the metaphor images in Joy Luck Club,in accordance with metaphors＇ discourse theme construction function,this paper brought forth the theme of ＂lost＂ and ＂reunion＂ supported by a primary metaphor and numerous secondary metaphors derived from it.This theme runs through the whole narration as an internal integrating element;meanwhile,it is a vivid portrayal of the cultural predicament of American Chinese community,and it also symbolizes the life path of ordinary people.It stands for the whole process from being separated and ＂lost＂ from the mother language and motherland to the ultimate recovery and ＂reunion＂ of self-consciousness and self-identity on the part of American Chinese.The connotation of life path and track endows this novel broad and universal humanistic concern.
