On the Influences of Cultural Tradition in China's Economic Development Model Transformation

中国从20世纪90年代提出转变经济发展方式的任务,至今无明显进展。其重要原因在于中国受传统影响深刻,文化传统的某些成分妨碍了经济发展方式的转变。首先,中国缺少一种用技术的方式解决社会问题、满足社会需要的文化传统。其次,中国有浓厚的官本位传统,这一传统强化和维护了粗放型的经济发展模式。传统有着很强的惯性,传统的改造将是一个长期的过程,中国经济发展方式的转变也将是一个长期的、复杂的进程。

There is no obvious progress in transforming China＇ s economic development model since its official assignment in 1990s. Major causes can be traced to the far - reaching influences of Chinese traditional culture, some of whose elements seriously deter the economic development model transformation. Firstly, China lacks the cultural tradition to resolve social problems and to meet social needs through technical means. Secondly, the deeply - rooted official - oriented tradition in China has strengthened and sustained the extensive model of economic development. With its strongly inertial nature, it will take a long time to reform this tradition. Accordingly, it remains a long process to transform China＇ s economic develooment model.
