The Loss and Reconstruction of Females' Subjectivity in Sula

文章从文化和家庭两个角度来剖析《秀拉》中女性人物主体性丧失的原因,分析其核心人物秀拉,和她与黑人集体的关系,并结合"双重意识"这一概念探讨了秀拉重建主体性失败的原因。最后指出黑人女性要将自我同责任融合,美国人和黑人女性两种身份并重,在更新视野的同时不忘继承集体的优良文化。

This paper analyzes the loss of females＇ subjectivity in Sula through the perspectives of the erosion of white culture and the influence of family. Then, it examines the leading character Sula and her relation with the black community. At last, it explores the cause of Sula＇ failure in her reconstruction of subjectivity. Black women need to attach equal importance to their freedom and responsibilities, and when they try to keep pace with the changing world they should carry forward their positive traditions.
