The Generation and the Development of Couplets

楹联是中国人独有的一种文体。楹联产生的时间,有晋代说、南朝梁代说、初唐说、盛唐说、中唐说、晚唐说、五代说等多种说法。楹联的产生,首先要有汉字的基础,因为只有汉字(方块字)才能产生楹联这门艺术;其次,是民俗的需要,这是楹联产生、发展的诱因;再次,是骈文的繁盛,诗歌领域摘句风气的影响,尤其是格律诗的成熟才最终导致了楹联的产生。楹联产生的时代可宽泛地定为唐朝。楹联的发展与繁荣,是受民俗、政权、文人的喜好与创作、书法与建筑等多重因素影响的结果。楹联的鼎盛期在清代。

Couplet is a type of writing in China.There are many kinds of versions about the appearance of Couplets,such as Liang dynasty,early-Tang dynasty,vigorous-Tang dynasty,mid-Tang dynasty,later-Tang dynasty,and WuDai dynasty.The generation of Couplets could not appear without Chinese characters first at all because Couplets could be emerged as a kind of arts only by Chinese characters.Secondly,the generation of Couplets was the need of folkways.Once again,the booming of parallel prose,the influence of refining verses in the field of poetry,and above all,the ripe of regulated poems improved the generation of Couplets finally.The period of the generation of Couplets must be Tang dynasty broadly.The development and the booming of Couplets were influenced of the folkways,the regime,the liking and writing of the scholars,the penmanship,and buildings.Couplets were in full bloom at the period of Qing dynasty.
