The present article, taking animal words as examples, is trying to show how various translation strategies are applied in the dictionary translation from the viewpoint of basic translation theories. Through the explanation to the relationship between language and culture, the article aims to remind the translator should be user - oriented and flexible in using translation strategies in the dictionary -translation.
