Oxymoron is a special kind of rhetoric, which puts two different and contradictory words or phrases together in order to produce the strongly unexpected and fascinating rhetorical effect. In the paper, the author takes the languages in the daily life and the literature works as the examples and analyzes why people violate these maxims intentionally or unintentionally from the perspective of the cooperative principle.
