摘要
朱子很强调修养工夫,在修养工夫之中,特重视敬的工夫。他认为:"敬之一字,真圣学之纲领,存养之要法。""敬字工夫,乃圣门第一义,彻头彻尾,不可顷刻间断。"之所以如此,是因为敬的工夫是"万善"之根本,而达到最高的善,是儒学的根本目的。这里有一种宗教精神,敬的工夫最能体现这种宗教精神。在中国,本无独立的宗教,正是儒学承担了宗教的功能。
Zhu Xi underlines self-cultivation and especially, the cultivation of ＂showing respect＂. He holds that ＂respect＂ is the guiding principle of the true sages, which should be completely maintained. ＂Respect＂ is originally a kind of religious emotion, the essence of ＂all virtues＂, which is the basic goal of Confucianism. The cultivation of ＂showing respect＂ can best reflect this religious emotion. In China there is not an independent religion and so Confucianism undertakes this religious function.
