When Dan Akerson,Chairman of the Board and CEO of General Motors Corporation(GM), held the global board meeting in China for the first time,he brought the whole board with him. He has to show the importance of the Chinese market for GM to the public. The reason is simple.According to GM's annual report,China's market contributed 2.3 million GM cars among its 8.38 million total sales around the world in 2010,almost 28%of its global market share, and became the major origin of GM's profits.Actually,China has become the largest market of GM. While the US and the Europe are suffering the economic slowdown due to the debt crisis this year,1.27 million GM cars were sold in China in the first half of this year,a record high in history. In the eyes of Akerson, the key for GM to succeed in the future lies in the development of the potential of China' market as well as advanced automobile technologies. In the days of GM meetings, the auto giant will devise a new strategy on China's market with its collaborative electric car platform and independent development center.
