The definiteness effect in the L2 English of Chinese learners

摘要 本文在最简方案框架内,借助基于Lime Survey在线测试系统的语境下语法可接受度判断试题,就中国学生对英语Therebe存在句中定指效应的习得情况进行实证研究。结果发现:(1)受试既能很好地习得定指效应,又能接受定指效应的例外情况;(2)定指效应习得受普遍语法制约,受试中介语中存在细微的、从属于英语的定指制约;(3)中国学生充分意识到[±definite]特征在英语中必须组合进冠词系统,通过不定冠词"a/an"和定冠词"the"对[-definite]/[+definite]特征进行强制性区分。研究证明中国学生中介语不存在[±definite]表征缺陷。 This research is an experimental investigation into the Definiteness Effect in the L2 English existentials with there-insertion by Chinese learners within the framework of Minimalism.A Lime Survey(online contextualized acceptability judgment task) of 50 Chinese students was carried out.The results show:(1) Chinese learners of both the advanced and intermediate proficiency levels observe the Definiteness Effect and its exceptions in English existentials;(2) the acquisition of Definiteness Effect is UG-constrained,and the interlanguage grammar exhibits subtle restrictions on definiteness pertaining to English;(3) Chinese learners have fully realized that [±definite] feature must be assembled into the English article system,with a/an and the overtly marked for such [-definite]/[+definite] feature,and our subjects don't suffer any kind of deficit relating to definiteness.
