With a keen eye for what is going on in the present society,the renowned contemporary Australian poet Bruce Dawe is particularly noted for his strong social consciousness.His poetry,now quietly meditating and making perceptive judgments,now strongly satirizing and criticizing,features an intense concern for the prominent social problems and cancerous social phenomena of the modern society,exhibiting an invaluable sense of social commitment.This article offers an interpretative reading of a group of his poems in Chinese translation rendered by the present author himself in hopes of providing a glimpse into the poet's accomplishment.
