Since Liu Bi (King of the Wu State in West Han Dynasty) tried to attract lamisters to boil seawater into salt, the Huai River Basin Area had long been a hub for the salt industry in ancient China. In particular, the city of Yangzhou prospered through its salt business and was thus the home to the largest number of salt business cultural heritages.
