Katherine Anne Porter' s story "The Cracked Looking-Glass" is an important work worth the attention of feminist critics. By writing covertly about the female self and gender politics, Porter reveals the female' s disadvantaged stares in patriarchal society through symbolism. The double-textual writing of the story, which turns out to be Porter' s habitual method in handling female subjects, reflects the conservativeness of her female thoughts. This provides valuable inspirations for understanding Porter as a writer concerned about female experience and proficient in depicting female characters, especially for resolving the disputes over her identity as a feminist writer.
