THE CORE SPACE FOR LIVING OF JAPAN——LIVING-ROOM SPACE

客厅是日本家庭中既私密又开放的公共空间。日本特殊的社会文化传统,使得日本住宅对于客厅的开放性和私密性都有着独特的理解。这种理解体现在住宅内部空间的序列、内外部空间的转换与关系、以及客厅作为家庭公共空间核心的地位等方面,在发展过程中形成了特有的的住宅空间结构和部件。虽然经历了城市化和工业化的过程,日本的社会经济条件和城市空间肌理都发生了巨大的变化,住宅形式也走向现代化,但是这种对于客厅文化的独特理解一直在日本住宅设计之中延续。

Living-room is a domestic space demanding both openness and privacy. In her history, Japan has formed a particular understanding to these two features. This understanding has been concretized in Japanese house in its arrangement of spatial sequence, relationship between inside and outside, and living-room’s nucleus position in a house; thus special spatial structure and components were formed. Though experienced urbanization and industrialization in the modern age, the socio-economic condition has drastically changed, as well as the housing forms, this traditional living-room culture is continued in modern housing design in Japan.
