佛教报恩观和佛教孝道观有着各自的伦理规范。两者既有区别,又有联系。就联系而言,佛教的报恩观与孝道观基于相同的佛理教义,佛教报恩观是佛教孝道观的理论基础,是广义上的佛教孝道观。就区别而言,佛教报恩观围绕孝亲——敬众生——忠国——信佛法的人生理想而展开,孝道观围绕人子的社会角色而展开;佛教报恩观关系人生理想,孝道观关系社会伦理;佛教报恩观宣扬报恩得善报,孝道观多宣扬不孝遭恶报。

Thankfulness and filial piety in Buddhism have different ethical principles. They are distinct but connected with each other. For connection, thankfulness and filial piety are based on the same Buddhism teaching. The former is the theoretical basis of the latter and equal to it in broad sense. As for distinction, thankfulness involves piety parents, respecting all sentiment beings, devotion to one＇ s country, dharma worship while filial piety points out duties for sons in society. Furthermore, thankfulness prefers goal of life and filial piety stresses on social ethics. The former believes that virtue is always rewarded while the latter suggests that evil is always punished.
