摘要
广东怀集诗洞一些地名是当地标话的汉字记音,这些地名用字无法从字面去理解。研究这些地名对地名学、语言学、民族学、历史学等学科有重要意义。
This paper discusses the place names in the Shidong Chinese dialect, which poses difficulties to blunt understanding of these names in Chinese. It is suggested that they may have originated from the Biao language, hence rich in cultural denotations, for example, ＂六＂ meaning ‘a house＇, ＂沉＂, ＂琴＂ and ＂岑＂ meaning ‘a pond＇, and ＂南＂ meaning ‘water＇. The study of these place names is significant to toponymy, linguistics, ethnology and histology.
