Remote Source of Humanities as a Discipline

如果说人文学在今天遇到了一次壮丽的日出,那么其远源和根脉则可上溯到高古上古远古的文化传承。在原始要终的意义上,可以说人文学的高古风神是艺文志,其上古根基是太史学,而其由来已久的化境则是体道学。至少在文史哲互根的终极处,艺文志、太史学和体道学,呈现出了人文学向其上游原道性的回归和在其高古开放性的前瞻。在全球化的视野下,重振人文学的远源根脉,有助于我们将这门博雅的学科推进到化解唯科技理性和促动道器合一的境界。

If it can be said that the discipline Of humanities today has met a magnificent sunrise, it should not be forgotten that its roots date back to cultural heritages of ancient times. Its lineage can be traced back to the yi wen zhi, or ＂index of literature on the arts＂ , of recent antiquity, to tai shi xue, or scribology, of middle antiquity and for its adaptation to contexts to the ti duo xue, or scholarship in understanding the Way, of the farthest antiquity. At least at the ultimate source where the roots of literature, historiography and philosophy are intertwined, the discipline of humanities can find its rudiments and open vision. In the global perspective of today, the revisit to the roots of the discipline of humanities can help us move the discipline forward in order to offset the rampant scientific rationality in the building of a world that unifies the Way and its vessels.
