Translation activities in China have never been stopped during The Anti-Japanese War. However, they occurred in various parts of China in varied forms with distinguished features, such as the translation of Marxism-Leninism works in Yan' an revolutionary base, the rendition of literary works in the Kuomintang-ruled areas, the translation of Japanese litera- ture in the Enemy-occupied Area, and the military interpretation and translation on battlefields. This paper tries to explore, in the light of Michel Foucauh' s power discourse theory, the causes that led to the varied forms of translation activities in this particular period of Chinese history. It reaches a conclusion that these varied translation activities are not accidental e- vents, but the inevitable result from the manipulation of partitioned powers in a set time and space.
