Objective To clear the symbolic term in Orthodontics - anchorage and scientific connotation of resistance. Methods Searched history documents and dissected its unscientific definition to anchorage and resistance. Results Current document literature failed to give the scientific definition towards anchorage and resistance. Conclusion Anchorage and resistance are symbolic terms in orthodontics. Clarifying its scientific connotation has important theoretical value and practical significance. It can help orthodontist enhance active consciousness on controlling anchorage effectively. Besides, it can provide scientific theoretical basis for different kinds of additional anchorage strengthening devices. It can be said without the guidance of effective resistance anchorage control. We can say there won＇ t be ideal orthodontic treatment.
