辜鸿铭与儒家典籍英译:一种后殖民视角

Ku Hungming's Translation of Confucian Classics:a Postcolonial Perspective

清朝末期,"怪杰"辜鸿铭在国内知识分子大量引进国外论著的热潮中做出了翻译儒家典籍的"怪举"。这与众不同的翻译行为并非辜鸿铭的无意之举,而是在当时社会政治背景影响下的一种爱国行为。以后殖民翻译理论为基础,梳理辜鸿铭翻译儒经的前因后果及其采用的翻译策略,探讨辜鸿铭的儒经英译在中国文化身份的建构中所起的独特作用,可以为后殖民翻译理论研究和中国典籍英译带来一些新的启示。

At the closing period of the Qing Dynasty, Ku Hungming chose to translate the Confucian Classics when most of the Intellectuals were bringing in foreign works. This is not a random behavior, but a patriotic action in the certain social political background. The paper applies the postcolonial translation theory and takes a new angle to study Ku Hungming and his translation. It is hoped to discover the unique functions that Ku＇s translations of Confucian Classics have to the construction of Chinese cultural identity, and find some implications to the study of postcolonial translation and the contemporary translation of Chinese Classics.
