On Japanese Concept of Privacy

社会建构在其传统的价值观上,价值取向是隐私观形成的根源。集团主义是日本固有的价值观念,同时,西方的某些个人主义价值观念在日本也备受推崇。两种不同价值观的交织形成了日本人独特的隐私观:他们十分崇尚群体隐私,也非常重视个体隐私的保护。

Every society builds on its traditional values,which forms the root of concept of privacy.Collectivism remains as the inherent values in Japan,and some western values of individualism is also highly respected in Japan.Interweaving of these two different values the Japanese hold a unique view on privacy.They advocate group privacy on one hand,and attach great importance to the protection of individual privacy on the other.
