Shi Nianhai’s Contributions to the Cause of China Local Records

陕西首轮地方志编纂事业的启动,学术支撑和学者参与是其一个鲜明的特色。著名历史地理学家史念海以学者身份重理旧业,投身当代中国地方志的学科理论探索,并出任陕西省地方志编纂委员会副主任,是当代陕西地方志事业的主要创始人之一。他从历史地理学学科出发,对中国地方志的学科建设和纂修实践作出的重大贡献,主要体现在地方志的学科理论探索和《〈陕西通志〉纂修方案》总体设计等方面。

At the start of Shaanxi’s first-round local records compilation cause, a distinct characteristic was academic support and scholar’s participation. Shi Nianhai, the renowned historical geographer, re-developed his old profession and devoted himself as a scholar into the theoretical exploration of modern China local records as an academic subject. He took the position of Deputy Director of Shanxi Provincial Local Records Compilation Commission, and became one of the key founders of modern Shanxi local records cause. He started from the subject of historical geography, and made major contributions to the subject construction and compilation practice of China local records, which are worthy of further research and exploration by later generations.
