Application of High Performance Computing in Basic Scientific Research

摘要 基础科学研究是高性能计算最主要的应用领域之一。本文基于上海超级计算中心在科学计算方面的实践,介绍了高性能计算在计算化学、固体物理和纳米材料、计算生物学和药物设计、天文物理等几个主要领域方面的应用,并对其应用特点进行了分析。 Basic scientific research is one of the most important application field of High Performance Computing (HPC), Based on the practices of HPC in Shanghai Supercomputer Center (SSC), this paper introduces applications of HPC in differently basic scientific research fields such as computational chemistry, solid state physics and nano materials, computational biology and drug design, and astrophysics, etc.. Characteristics of these applications are also analyzed.
