Objective: This study concerned not only the meta-worry but also the capability to identify false worry situations and the intolerance of uncertainty to intervene in the generalized anxiety individuals. Methods: 64 subjects recruit- ed from college students whose Penn State Worry Questionnaire(PSWQ) scores were over 50 points were randomly assigned to experimental group and control group. Experimental group received cognitive behavioral group intervention once a day for seven consecutive days. The focus was to improve their capability to identify false worry situations, while reducing their intolerance of uncertainty and meta-worry. Results: (1)After the intervention, scores of the generalized anxiety symptoms, intolerance of uncertainty and meta-worry of the experimental group were all significantly lower than those of the control group. (2)Six months after the intervention, scores of the generalized anxiety symptoms of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group. (3)ANOVA showed that there were significant differences within the experimental group among the three checkpoints. (4)ANOVA showed that there were no significant differences within the control group among the three checkpoints. Conclusion: Short-term group cognitive behavioral therapy aiming to reduce the symptoms of generalized anxiety, meta-worry and the intolerance of uncertainty has achieved good intervening effects.
