The study uses input-output techniques to analyze the inter linkages and impacts of Chinese food manufacturing activities upon other sectors and the whole Chinese economy. The results show that none of the fourteen Chinese food manufacturing sub-sectors can be considered key sectors. The values of the forward and backward linkages show that the Chinese food manufacturing industry is more stimulated by overall industry growth than other sectors.Six sub-sectors(slaughtering and meat processing industry;instant food industry;liquid milk and dairy products manufacturing;spices, fermented products industry;soft drinks and the refined tea processing industry) have greater impacts in terms of investment expenditures on the national economy than other sectors. As for the other eight sub sectors, neither it would be stimulated by an increase in a regional economy's production nor would its increasing output stimulate this regional economy more than an increase in other sectors. These results suggest that some policies should be established to increase linkages between food manufacturing and the rest of the Chinese economy.
