香港兴中会总会的成立及其重要性

Historical Significance of the Founding of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Revive China Society

兴中会之始创,过去有1892年澳门说、1893年广州说,以及1894年檀香山说,而以檀香山说最为可取。1895年,兴中会在香港成立总会。比较兴中会相继在檀香山与香港制定的宣言和章程,可知香港兴中会总会实为首具革命意向之团体;陈少白在香港创设《中国日报》,宣传革命,是为革命报刊始祖;该会于香港策动乙未广州之役,是为武装起义之始。香港兴中会总会遂能于近代中国革命运动中先拔头筹,香港亦因此成为近代中国革命之摇篮。

Where and when the Revive China Society came into being is a matter of debate.Some historians believe that it was founded in Macao in 1892,others argue that it was set up in Guangzhou in 1893;yet the most widely held view is that it was in Honolulu in 1894 that it was really established.In 1895,the Hong Kong chapter of the Revive China Society was founded.The spirit revealed in its declaration and constitution is most radical in comparison to those from Honolulu.China Daily,initiated and edited by Chen Shao-bai in Hong Kong,was the first among the Chinese newspapers that fervently promote revolution.The newly founded Hong Kong chapter of the Revive China Society immediately staged the Yiwei uprising against the Qing Dynasty in Guangzhou.It consequently stood out as the leading organization in the revolutionary movement in modern China,and Hong Kong is therefore commonly viewed as the cradle of modern Chinese revolution.
