Up to 2010, the proven oil reserves in Africa is 132.1billion barrels which makes it more than North America （73.3 billion barrdels） and Asia-Pacific（42.2 billion barrels）, which stands for 9.6% of global total and estimated to be explored for 36 years. The major African countries with big proven reserves are Libya （46.4 billion barrels, 3.4% of world total）, Nigeria （37.2 billion barrels, 2.7% of world total）, Angola （13.5 billion barrels, 1.0% of world total）, Algeria （12.2 billion barrels, 0.9% of world total） and Sudan （6.7 billion barrels, 0.5% of world total）.
