Great attention has been attracted to Anthony Burgess' novel A Clockwork Orange not only because of its bold experiment on language and style but also because of its provoking philosophy. In the novel, Burgess demonstrates the opposition between moral choice and technical society and he attaches tremendous importance to the freedom of moral choice. By analyzing the process of the hero-Alex's transformation from a bad man with free moral choice to a non-man without free moral choice and to a man with the freedom of moral choice, this paper aims to highlight the theme of the novel: a man must have the freedom of moral choice, and he can choose to be bad or good of his own free will. If not, he is not a human being but a clockwork orange.
