Donald Barthelme's post-modern novel Snow White was based on Grimms' Snow White and the Seven Dwafs but in a quite different style. For the author's part, intertextuality is an essential way of his "rebellious creation", while for the readers' part, it brings about their bittersweet "bliss" reading and helps them interpret Snow White's contradictory character and her tragedy to reveal that the author's creation is deeply influenced by the literary traditions of the pre-existent intertext and the author's social context.
