Females in the Chinese Community in Batavia——A Case Study of Gong An Bu

吧城华人社会中的女性是一个很特殊的群体,她包括了中国去的新客、与华人通婚的番人、华人与华人通婚后产生的第二代土生华人和华人与番人通婚后产生的第二代土生华人。吧城华人社会中,女性的观念和地位等都与中国国内有很大不同。文章根据对《公案簿》中相关案件的分析,来揭示这一特殊的群体。

Females of the Chinese Community in Batavia are of a very special group, which includes new migrants from China, indigenous persons wedded to Chinese, the second generation of peranakans, descendents either of marriages between Chinese there or of marriages between Chinese and indigenous persons. In the Chinese Community of Batavia, the concept and status of women are different from those of women living in China＇ s mainland. This paper attempts to probe into this special group based on an analysis of relevant cases in Gong An Bu.
