Hymnbooks in the Harvard-Yenching Collection of Protestant Missionary Works in Chinese-A Preliminary Study

唱赞美诗不仅是基督教礼仪的一个重要内容,也是教会活动和教会学校日常生活中不可缺少的一个组成部分。但有关中国赞美诗的研究的研究都还谈不上深入。对原始资料的认识不足是关键因素之一。本文对哈佛-燕京图书馆收藏的中文基督教新教赞美诗集缩微资料做一初步研究,除介绍这些资料外,还旨在指出其中一些赞美诗在研究中西音乐交流史上的价值。

Starting from the seventh century AD,the Nestorian Christians into Chinese territory,that to spread the Gospel by hymns and singing songs were one of major works of missionaries in China.Only the nineteenth century came the Protestant missionanes brought the hymns countless.According to incomplete statistics,from Yangxin shenshi（Edifying hymns） published in 1818 by Robert Morrison（1782~1834）,the first person of Protestantism entered into China,to the Hymns of Universal Praise edited by the Union Hymnal Committee in 1936,it had been published more than 200 Protestant hymns（Sheng 1964： 487-519）.To sing the hymns not only an important part of Christian etiquette,it is also the indispensable part of the Church activities and daily life for church school.The article briefly introduced to the microform on the collection of Chinese Protestant praise existed in Harvad-Yenching Library at present,in addition to wish to show the domestic academic information,with the other purpose of pointing out that some of the hymns being significance in the history of the music exchange between the Chinese and the Western.
