The Pioneers,by James Fenimore Cooper,an early American writer,is an interpretation of the spirit of classical liberalism.Taking Templeton,a village of New York State as a window and focusing on Natty Bumppo, the leading character of the novel,Cooper shows a vivid picture of an American pioneer, who embraced the ideal of liberalism and strived for individual freedom. In the novel, the hunter persistently opposed the interference of the outside world.Meanwhile,he bravely challenged the laws, which threatened his individual freedom.Bumppo is a typical representative of thousands of American pioneers. His ideal of classical liberalism exemplified the spirit of American people.
