This paper, by identifying the pictographic character of " 巴" in the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells and considering the geographical environment in which the ancient Ba people lived, makes a textual research from the linguistic perspective to verify that the character " 巴" is named after a dependency or tribe name just because of the tribal people's a behavior - the manner of lowering their bodies and crawling when they were climbing mountains and crossing rivers. In short, " 巴" means climbing. Of course, such a view also needs to be further strengthened with more historical documents and the research results of archeology, anthropology, ethnology and other fields.
