A Study of Relationships between the Depth of Vocabulary Knowledge and Language Proficency

词汇知识深度作为是词汇能力的一个重要维度现在得到越来越多的重视。研究表明词汇知识深度能有效预测学习者的语言综合能力,尤其体现在对完形填空及写作的预测中;词汇知识深度与广度存在高度正相关,但是他们的发展有不平衡性;词汇知识深度各维度,如拼写、词义、词性词缀与词义联想等也具有相关性及各维度发展的不平衡;同时存在接受性词汇知识超出产出性词汇知识的现象。这些研究成果对于学习者采取合适的策略,提高语言能力具有重要意义。

As one of important factors of vocabulary knowledge,depth of vocabulary knowledge has been paid more and more attention in recent years.The researches show that it can predict the learners＇ language proficiency,especially in cloze and writing;there is positive correlation and unbalance between the depth and breadth of vocabulary knowledge;there is also a positive correlation and unbalance between different dimensional factors such as spelling,meaning,affix,association etc.;meanwhile the receptive vocabulary knowledge usually overpasses the productive one.All these studies will help learners apply proper strategies and enhance their language proficiency.
