The dragon is a Chinese totem symbolizing the emperor's supreme power and the court's dignity in ancient China. Dragon-related culture and traditions were also widely manifested in various dimensions of the Chinese society. Between 1368 and 1398, a great number of dragon-shaped bridges were built in Luxian County, southwest Sichuan Province. Historic records indicate that there were altogether 429 dragon-shaped bridges within the country's territory at that time. Today, 140 dragon-shaped bridges are still preserved, stretching cross some 130 rivers and brooks.Thus, Luxian County is proclaimed as the Birthplace of Chinese Dragon Culture.
