Su Xuelin＇ s Chuci study is imbued with the comparative consciousness. She is excellent at tackling various problems in the history of Chinese civilization under the background of world civilization, and reaches reasonable and comprehensive conclusions in a holistic view of ancient Chinese history. One prominent characteristic of Su＇ s Chuci study is the combination of patriotism and scien- tific attitude. On the vast background of times, Su accepts the doctrine that Chinese civilization has accepted some essences from the west, believes that Chinese culture is the eldest son of the world culture, and she demonstrates further that the culture of Taiwan and mainland belong to one and the same Chinese culture. Another characteristic is the combination of macrocosmic consciousness and mi- crocosmic skills. It is embodied in her textual criticism where she proposes evidence-based principles to support her Chuci study. Addi- tionally, her absorption of the theoretical achievements since Vatican II helpes her academic study reach the international frontline.
