This article describes the use of a next-generation ICP mass spectrometer for the determination of toxic, essential, and nutritional elements in foodstuffs. The study demonstrates how complex spectral interferences are overcome with the instrument’s universal cell mode, and how selective attenuation of the cell quadrupole bandpass allows macrolevel minerals to be determined without dilution in the same sample run as the trace elements. The data presented show good correlation with a group of NIST? food standard reference materials.
