E.E.Cummings,an important 20th century American poet and artist,pays great at-tention to the visual effects of poetry.By bringing into poetry the aethetic principles of the paint-er,he excels in articulating visual thinking and exciting visual imagination.Many of Cummings＇poems,extraordinary either for the original semantic visual effects,or for the vivid formal visualeffects,or for the perfect combination of both,leave great space for the reader to digest and ex-plore,and they prove to be of great artistic value.By using various deviant language and formskillfully to create visual effects,exploiting their potential in poetry writing and appreciation,Cummings opens up a new horizon,and exerts great influence on the development of modern poet-ry.
