Greek and Roman mythology,as the source of the west culture,has made a very important impact on the western culture.Since language is a part of culture,there are many English words which originated from Greek and Roman mythology.It is very hard to grasp the underlying meanings of the English words without an understanding of Greek and Roman mythology.This paper mainly explores the influence of Greek and Roman mythology on English vocabulary learning by discussing the importance of Greek and Roman mythology and by analyzing some English words and idioms derived from Greek and Roman mythology and then offers some strategies for learning the words related to Greek and Roman mythology.
