从杂合理论看粗俗语的翻译——《水浒传》赛珍珠译本与沙博理译本之比较研究

Study on Translation of Vulgarisms from the Perspective of Hybridity——Comparative Study of Two English Versions of Shui Hu Zhuan

汉、英文化之间存在空缺是很多译者苦苦思索的问题。后殖民杂合理论主张颠覆和反抗西方文化霸权,在译文中多保留原语的异质文化成分,这对粗俗语的翻译有切实的指导作用。粗俗语的翻译无论在语言文化上还是在翻译策略上,其杂合都是必然而必要的。《水浒传》赛译本和沙译本中粗俗语的翻译都表现出不同程度的杂合。在全球化的今天,粗俗语的翻译应当根据其文化空缺程度的不同,在借助归化策略清除阅读障碍的基础上对原文进行更多的异化处理,只有这样,才能实现两种语言和文化的平等交流,保持文化差异性和混杂性的对立统一。

The translation of Chinese and English vulgarisms with cultural vacancy has long been a headache for translation researchers. ＂Hybridity＂ is an important concept in post-colonial studies. In translation studies, the theory of hybridity asserts to resist western cultural hegemony by retaining more heterogeneous elements of the source language. Both English versions of Shui Hu Zhuan by Pearl S. Buck and Sidney Shapiro respectively show different degrees of hybridity. Hybridity in language and culture and the hybridization of domestication and foreignization are unavoidable and necessary in the translation of vulgarisms. The translation of vulgarisms should flexibly promote foreignization on the base of domestication, considering the degree of cultural vacancy. This can not only effectively handle the problem of vulgarism translation but also exert a positive influence on the equal communication of different languages and cultures.
