The Imperial Academy(Hanlin Yuan) of the Daming Palace was built in the early period of Tang Dynasty. Its original site written down in the historic archives was located in the west of the Linde Hall, but there was not any mapping evidences. The excavation team affiliated to the Institute of Archaeological Studies, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences excavated Tang's historic city in Xi'an during 1980-1983,and later issued an archaeological report. This paper, based on this archaeological report, other historic archives and relevant materials of architectural restoration, applies the basic theory of restoration, and discusses the institutional archetype of the Imperial Academy. It consequentially puts forwards a restoration plan for the Imperial Academy.
