在20世纪末西方社会思想、文化"空间转向"背景下,学者们开始重新审视人文生活中的"空间",城市空间作为一种物质性存在,在文学家的笔下有多种建构。城市在英国当代女作家多丽丝.莱辛作品中的功能不只是一个背景,而是寄托着作家复杂的个人体验,甚至成为完全脱离实体的意识产物和话语建构。莱辛在五部曲《暴力的孩子》中独具匠心地借用虚实相生的城市关系来诠释现实世界与理想生存境遇的冲突对抗,体现了作者对于人类生存问题的深刻思考。

At the end of the 20th century, under the background of Western cultural ＂space turn＂, scholars began to pay attention to the spiritual living space. Urban space, a physical existence, is constructed in different literary forms. In Doris Lessing＇ s works, urban space provides more than a setting, but the expression of the writer＇s personal experience, and even the construction of the writer＇ s ideology and discourse. In Children of Violence, Lessing＇ s juxtaposition of the imagined city and the real city reflects the contrast between reality and ideal living situation. Urban space in Lessing＇ s works shows the writer＇ s serious consid- eration on human being＇ s existence predicament.
