On Wen Tingshi's Achievements in Philology

文廷式不仅是晚清著名文学家、思想家、史学家,而且在文献学方面的成就也很卓著。《补晋书艺文志》是他目录学的代表作,补《晋书》之阙,可以考察两晋一代的学术发展状况;《永乐大典辑佚书》取得了丰富的成果,为搜集和保存中国古代文化典籍作出了巨大贡献。他在校勘、辨伪等方面的成就也很多。

Wen Tingshi,famous writer,thinker and historian in late Qing dynasty,was also prominent in philology.An Amendment to The Book of Chin Dynasty was a masterpiece by Wen,in attempt to study the development of academia in Chin Dynasty.The Recovery of Bibliography in Yongle Encyclopedia was another representative work by Wen,which contributes greatly to the search and study of ancient books and records.He had other achievements in collate and detection of forgeries.
