两广学务处沿革考略

On the Evolutionary History of Liangguang Xuewuchu

两广学务处是1903—1906年期间,广东、广西两省新式教育的最高行政机构,它的成立,既有清末新政的时代背景,也与两广总督岑春煊重视教育以及两广士绅的大力推动分不开。在张鸣岐等人的主持下,两广学务处制定的兴学政策为清末广东新式教育的发展奠定了坚实的基础。它经历的三次重大人事变化,反映了科举停废前后,中国近代地方教育行政体制逐步确立的复杂过程。

Liangguang Xuewuchu was the highest administration of the new style education in Guangdong and Guangxi between 1903-1906.Its establishment was not only due to the New Policies of late Qing dynasty but also to the strong support of Chen Chunxuan,governor of Guangdong and Guangxi,and of the gentry of the two provinces.Under Zhang Mingqi's leadership,Xuewuchu's new measures to improve education became the basis of development of the new style education in Guangdong.Its three important personnel changes reflected the complicated process of the gradual establishment of the local educational administrative system in modern China after the abolishment of the imperial examination.
