STRATEGY OF ENGLISH-CHINESE BILINGUAL INSTRUCTION IN THE CHINESE CONTEXT

中国背景下的汉英双语教育策略(英文)

摘要 Generally, the present English instruction in China is characterized by over utilitarianism, low motivation, and discontinuity, with consequences of test-oriented teaching and learning, learners' low English competency, illegal opportunistic conduct, and waste of educational resources. The applicable strategy to reverse the disadvantageous tendency is to carry out English-Chinese bilingual instruction based upon the principles of communication-orientation, content-basis, and continuity. The realization of effective dual language education is preconditioned by certain adjustments to educational policies involving establishment of a new English instructional and assessment system, training of bilingual teachers, and formulation of corresponding legal regulations. 目前我国的英语教学存在功利性太强、动力不足以及难以一以贯之等问题,直接导致了应试教学泛滥、学生英语水平低下和非法投机取巧等现象的产生。逆转上述趋势的一个行之有效的办法就是全面采取汉英双语教育策略,辅之以某些配套措施,如外语教育政策的调整、新的外语教学和测试制度的确立、合格双语师资的培养和相关法律法规的出台等。
