In the People's Republic of China, Gu Xiulian's star shines bright. She was the country's first woman governor, and first woman minister of the Chemical Industry. Currently, the smiling and energetic lady is Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China; President of the All-China Women's Federation, and, therefore, a leader of the women's movement in present-day China. To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women, reporters from Women of China magazine interviewed Gu about issues related to Chinese women's development.
