A Comment on the Reform of CET——Analysis of College English Teaching and Testing

作者列举了对CET的批判性观点,分析了CET的测试性质,并从CET与《大学英语教学大纲》的关系入手分析了CET问题产生的根源,对上述批判性观点予以逐一点评,并对解决CET面临的主要问题以及改进我国英语教学和测试提出了一些建议。他指出,CET对我国大学英语教学至关重要,涉及CET的问题有复杂的产生背景和根源,CET不应负主要责任；要解决相关问题,必须改革教学和测试的管理体制,杜绝测试垄断,建立和完善科学的评价考试体系,语言测试要多元化、市场化,要引入合理竞争机制并规范运作。

The author lists some criticisms on CET before he makes an analysis of its main features and the origins of the problems with it by examining the relation between CET and the College English Teaching Syllabus.He then makes brief comments on the criticisms,offering tentative suggestions on improving China's English teaching and testing.He points out that CET is vitally significant to the English teaching,and should not be blamed on all the problems related to it;the key solution to them is to reform the teaching-testing administration mechanism, stop testing monopoly,and establish an effective educational evaluation system for the whole society.Meanwhile,development of language testing market with rea- sonable and ordered competition should be encouraged.
